How To: Prep Your Skin For A Big Event

How To: Prep Your Skin For A Big Event

Is a birthday coming up? Or perhaps a beautiful wedding? Whatever the event, your skin deserves as much attention as that gorgeous outfit you spent weeks picking out! Welcome to our ultimate guide to getting your skin perfectly prepped to ensure you are looking absolutely flawless at your next special event

While some products and treatments are best to be used on specific days, there are a couple of things you should be doing every day. But don’t worry we’ve broken it down, we’ve got you!

Skin Prep Tip #1 - Stay Hydrated

Hydration is everything when it comes to your skin. It’s important to focus on hydrating your body from the inside and out. According to Dinah Manalo from Pure Luxe Medical staying hydrated can assist in balancing the pH of your skin, flushing toxins from your body (the ones that cause those pesky little breakouts) and can reduce wrinkles by maintaining your skin's elasticity. So how much water should you be drinking? There are more technical ways of working this out but aim for 2 litres a day as a general rule. While drinking water assists with keeping us hydrated from the inside, unfortunately only a small percentage of that water contributes to the hydration levels in our skin, this is why using a hydrating serum is so important. Use the Australian Skin Institute Pure Hydration Concentrate morning and night - this way you are giving your skin hydration from the inside and out!

Skin Prep Tip #2 - Go To Bed Early

You already know this one. Make sure you are getting a good night's rest. A 2017 study found that a mere two days of restricted sleep affected participants' perceived appearance, health and trustworthiness; yikes! For those of you who have tiny humans running around preventing you from getting a full night's rest, pat yourself on the back; you're doing great! Don't worry. We have a cheat card for you. Throw a little 2-minute lymphatic drainage massage into your morning routine. Lymphatic drainage reduces puffiness, and as a bonus, it feels pretty nice too!

Skin Prep Tip #3 - Nourish Your Body

Try to incorporate lots of fresh fruits and vegetables into your meals every day. We want to see all the colours of the rainbow. Blueberries and oranges are a great source of Vitamin C which aids in collagen production. Salmon is full of antioxidants that reduce inflammation (and is delicious). Avocados are rich in Vitamin E, promoting healthy skin cell function - take that ‘avo on toast’ haters! As a rule of thumb, try to cook using fresh, nutrient-rich ingredients.

Skin Prep tip #4 - Wash Your Face Before Bed

Yes, I mean every single night. Even when you're tired, especially if you’re two hours deep into a TikTok rabbit hole and couldn't think of anything worse than leaving your bed - no excuses! In fact, I expect a double cleanse. Cleansing your skin at night before following your skincare routine is imperative. During the day, our skin is building up make-up, sweat, excess oil, a germy little phone occasionally pressed up against it and sometimes even a few biscuit crumbs (no judgement here). This is what our first cleanse is here for. Thank you first-cleanse. While our second cleanse balances the pH of our skin and allows those active ingredients to get to work, leaving your skin perfectly prepped for your serums and a moisturiser. Your skin now has the whole night (on a clean pillowcase, cough cough, this is your warning) to recover and rejuvenate in peace.

Now that we've gone over the everyday rituals to the best skin ever, let's get to the event lead-up prep

Monday Skin Prep

Today is exfoliation day! Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and accelerates your skin's rejuvenation process. Use your Hydr8Tan Exfoliation Cloth to do a full-body exfoliation. Once you're done exfoliating, moisturise your entire body with the Australian Skin Institute Tea Tree or Mango & Witch Hazel Body Moisturiser. After a double cleanse, exfoliate your face using the Australian Skin Institute AHA Power Exfoliant. Follow with your favourite Australian Skin Institute serums and Night Treatment

Trust me, your skin will look and feel fab after this!

Tuesday Skin Prep

Today is a good day. Today is the day you visit your local skin clinic and have a luxurious 6-step HydraFacial treatment. Think of your at-home skincare routine as the gym and your in-clinic treatment as your personal trainer. Both are important when striving to reach your goals. Your in-clinic treatments or personal trainer can target specific areas of concern and provide treatments and equipment that you don't have access to at home. It's essential to have your skin treatment done a few days before your event, allowing time for any small breakouts to present themselves and go away just as quickly. As the name suggests, this incredible treatment includes six different steps that combine the latest technology and professional Australian Skin Institute products to achieve your best skin ever.

Wednesday Skin Prep

Happy humpday! How is your skin feeling after that gorgeous facial? Delightful? I thought so. Today we are prepping for your Hydr8Tan Spray Tan. Whether you are a waxer or a shaver, today is the day we remove any unwanted body hair. It's important not to do this on the day of your spray tan to achieve the best results. After waxing or shaving, make sure you apply your body moisturiser, keeping your skin soft and hydrated.

Thursday Skin Prep

It’s tan day! Book yourself in for a hydrating Spray Tan. Opting for a hydrating tan in a natural undertone will ensure your skin stays bronzed and hydrated for the duration of your tan. Your spray tan will match your schedule and your unique skin tone. Keep it simple tonight - cleanse, serum and night treatment. Avoid exfoliating or using skin resurfacing products, as this will affect the longevity of your tan.

Friday Skin Prep

Today is a relatively cruisy day in terms of prep. Wash your hair, so it's ready for styling tomorrow. Focus on drinking plenty of water and getting a good nights rest. Remember to follow your nighttime skincare routine as per usual. Before going to bed, pop two Australian Skin Institute Dermal Face Lift Masks in the fridge.

Saturday Skin Prep - The Day Of Your Event

Today is the big day, and you have never been more ready. All of your perfect prepping has paid off. Grab your Dermal Face Lift Mask from the fridge and pop it on for 30 minutes before applying your makeup. Trust me, this one is a game-changer. Your skin will be smooth and plumped, providing the perfect canvas for long-lasting makeup. You are glowing! Now get out there and enjoy your big event! Don't forget to drink some water in between those champagnes.

Sunday

How are you feeling? Perhaps a little sleep deprived, maybe a slight hangover is lingering? Don't worry, we prepared for this - grab that second sheet mask out of the fridge and pop it on. Who knew a sheet mask could be so soothing and comforting. Now you are ready to go on a brunch date with the gals and reminisce over the night that was!
